Imaging the North American Nebula

Behold, the great NGC 6888 aka the North American Nebula. The dark center is filled with thick dusty clouds, obscuring the nebula's glow but also providing a contrast to its brighter regions. This emission nebula is energized by nearby massive hot stars, causing it to glow in various colors. The intense orange represents hydrogen gas, and the soft blue is oxygen gas molecules. On the right side, you can find the Pelican Nebula, and to its left, the North America Nebula. The Gulf of Mexico is the most prominent feature. Oh, and if you were considering a trip to this nebula at the speed of light, make sure to plan ahead because it would take you about 2,500 years to get there!
